EAPP Fall (Sept - Dec) 2006
"I am planning to apply to graduate school in the near future. Before I joined the EAPP program, I felt nervous about the challenges I will face as an international student in a Master's program, especially for someone from Asia with limited expereince in the American educational culture. The EAPP courses can be devided into two parts: one is academic writing and the other is academic speaking. In the writing courses, we learn how to write a research paper, and the kinds of academic English we would use in our future courses. In the speaking courses, we learned how to do formal speeches and presentations. In addition to learning the academic skills I need to write and speak in academic settings, I also have learned that self-study is one of the most important things for success in western education. As a result of my experience in EAPP, I have gained more confidence about reaching my target goal and increased my understanding about the expectations of graduate school. Most importantly, I don't feel scared about using academic English anymore. "
