July 1, 2009
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to make a few short quick announcements. Today is July 1st and this means some new laws and rate increases will take effect. I will highlight just a few of these changes.
On-campus parking:
If you drive to UH and park in the parking structure (or lower campus), please expect to now pay $4 a day (instead of $3) prior to 4 pm. After 4 pm, a flat parking rate of $5 will apply to the entire University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. Go to this website to find out more:

The Bus:
If you ride the bus to UH, a one-way fare will now cost $2.25. If you choose to buy a monthly pass, it will cost $50.
Also, The Bus has what is called a “U-Pass” program. The U-Pass program allows students who attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa and other colleges and universities on the island to pay a reduced fee for a semester long bus pass. You will need to get a UH student ID card to qualify.
Currently, the cost for a U-Pass bus pass is $80 and is valid until August 31st. Stay tuned to find out how much the U-Pass will cost starting from September 1st, 2009 through the fall semester. Go to this website to find out more:

Cell phone ban:
Also, starting from today, all drivers on Oahu are banned from using their cell phones while driving. So, if you like to talk on the phone while you are driving, please be forewarned that if you are caught holding your cell phone and talking on the phone while driving, you will be fined $67 or more! If you must talk on the phone while driving, go out and buy a hands free device such as a Bluetooth headset. Drivers are also not allowed to use any other mobile device while driving as well. For more information, please go to this website. It is from the Honolulu Police Department website.

These are just some of the changes that will take place starting from today. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Mahalo nui loa!
